A base station is a fixed radio site or node that transmits and receives signals to connect end devices to a wireless or mobile access network. It is the local infrastructure point that supports access, coverage, and mobility.

The main limitation of a base station is that its service quality is bounded by the local radio environment and the surrounding support infrastructure. If the antenna, spectrum, or power supply is weak, the whole cell suffers. That makes base-station design and site selection critical.
A second challenge is that the base station is often the first point of failure users notice. If it goes down, coverage and handover degrade immediately. Good deployment therefore requires redundancy, maintenance access, and operational monitoring.
