The main limitation of last-mile connectivity is that it is often the hardest segment to scale. Terrain, distance, permitting, and sparse population can all make the final connection expensive or unreliable. That means the last mile is often the decisive factor in whether a service is commercially viable or operationally adequate.
A second issue is that last-mile constraints are not always visible from upstream performance metrics. A strong core network can hide local access problems until users report degradation. Good design therefore requires local visibility, coverage planning, and service assurance.
