Wireless Network

A wireless network is a network in which data is transmitted through radio, infrared, or other non-wired media between nodes or endpoints. It may provide access, mobility, or transport depending on the architecture.

The main constraint in wireless networking is that performance is shaped by the environment. Interference, obstruction, and spectrum availability can all reduce service quality. That means wireless systems must be engineered with more variability than wired systems.
A second challenge is that wireless is a broad category, not a single design pattern. Mobile networks, Wi-Fi, and air-to-ground links share the same medium but have different operational goals and parent relationships. Good taxonomy therefore keeps wireless broad and uses narrower terms for the specific access model.
