In practice, onboard networking acts as the platform’s internal nervous system. Avionics, telemetry sources, entertainment systems, and connectivity equipment exchange data through controlled pathways that have to respect safety, timing, and isolation requirements.

This network has to be designed for constrained power, vibration, space, and fault tolerance. That makes onboard networking very different from office networking even if some underlying principles are similar.

The main limitation of onboard networking is that it must coexist with strict platform constraints.
